Tavner's is a collection of a few things, firstly it is the remains of a pier that took day trippers from the
Thames, under the road and into Rosherville Gardens. Secondly it was re-used during WWII as an observation
post to watch for German parachute mines landing in the river, and thirdly a small brick drain that exits
into the Thames alongside the pier.
It was a cold December eve in 2005 when we nosed around, a cold but fun couple of hours was spent wading through Thames mud,
shopping trolleys, office furniture and much other random shoreline debris whilst watching the occasional freight ship silently glide by.
The drain was a small brick arch that ran back to a brick manhole chamber and on from there as a shrinker.
