Discovered and named by Siologen
this is a drain of two parts. It is a short walk downstream from Sidedraught Induction
on the Gore Brook in South East Manchester. It's first and shorter section 'A' is around 500m long, a brick arched
culvert with various smaller side pipes joining along its length. One side pipe in particular, a fairly recent rcp,
has a wall of uniform wooden sections that could be raised or lowered to allow flow from the pipe side pipe to enter
the main pipe, quite odd.
The second part of Supercharger comes after a short wander back above ground, the brook passes under a rail line and then
almost immediately back underground into Supercharger 'B'. This section is twice the length of 'A' at around 1Km, and it is
certainly the more interesting half of the two. Going back underground initially you enter an unusually formed concrete box,
with its sides splaying outwards towards its lower edge, giving the section a similar profile to that of a slightly squashed
up-turned thimble. LOL! Once past this more modern addition you come back into the brick tunnel and round a corner to be greeted
by a small but fantastic waterfall. The same sewer and processing chambers that are present in Sidedraught Induction are also found
here and add a little extra poo flavour to the drain. At the end of part B the culvert incorporates an old road bridge which can
be seen in the archive pic in the external links section below.
