Another of the six culverts along the Gore Brook, Sidedraught is a really awesome drain! Like many
in Manchester its chilled out vibe makes it so much fun to explore. With entry via a gapping grille
in a public park and exit via its open outfall in another public park, it's an effortless explore.
Throughout its length the drains construction is a series of varyingly sized and shaped brick arches, at one point
being two seperate arch topped pipes running parallel to each other and then re-joining in one mighty
arched tunnel. A foul sewer runs parallel to the culvert and at points there are side pipes that allow
for access to overflow chambers on the sewer, not pretty. The water level at the outfall reaches near groin deep,
so unless you're wanting to get sodden waders are in order. We explored Sidedraught in August 2004 with
Siologen
and the Urbanunderworld boys during the
UK's first Draining Expo, at that time photos were not really any sort of priority
of any sort and so we need to get back here to take some useable pictures.
